Toretsk is a city in the Donetsk region, founded in 1806 and closely associated with coal mining. The city has a rich history, from Cossack settlements that provided defense against raids to the development of the coal industry in the 19th century. In 2016, the city was renamed from Dzerzhynsk to Toretsk. Unfortunately, since 2014, the city has been in a combat zone, suffering numerous shellings, with fighting particularly intensifying in 2024, but continues to persevere.
