Pivdenne, in the Járkov Oblast, is a historic town founded in 1963 following the merging of two villages. Located 15 km from Járkov, on the banks of the Merefa River, it was liberated from German occupation in 1943 during World War II. Although part was integrated into Járkov in 2012, it retains its identity and has important railway connections. Most residents speak Ukrainian. Wikipedia
