The Fortress of Klis, near Split, is a historical treasure with a history spanning over two thousand years. Starting as a Dalmatian stronghold, it evolved into a royal residence and crucial military fortress, particularly during the Ottoman Wars. Its strategic location, nestled between mountains, made it a critical crossroads and defensive point. Significant moments in its history include the defeat of the Tatars in 1242 and the heroic defense of Petar Kružić against the Ottomans for over 25 years, where the military formation of the Uskoks was born.
