The Ellsworth Mountains in West Antarctica’s Ellsworth Land are the highest mountain range on the continent. Extending over 350 km in length, they are impressive with numerous high mountains rising from the Antarctic Ice Sheet. The mountains were discovered in 1935 by Lincoln Ellsworth, after whom they are named, and are divided into the Sentinel Range, the Heritage Range, and the Whitmore Mountains. Their geological development is complex, dating back to the Cambrian period, shaped by sedimentary deposits, tectonic shifts during the Gondwana orogeny, and volcanic activity. Today, they represent a unique geological terrane offering insights into Earth’s history.Wikipedia
