Scranton, Pennsylvania, is the largest city in Northeastern Pennsylvania and the county seat of Lackawanna County. Originally a small, agrarian village with New England roots, it rapidly transformed into a major industrial center fueled by iron, steel, and especially anthracite coal in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This growth attracted waves of immigrants, creating a diverse, multicultural city. Known as the “Electric City” for being a pioneer in electric lighting and streetcars, Scranton's economy peaked during WWII but declined with the fall of the coal industry. Today, it’s a regional hub with thriving healthcare, academic, and tourism sectors, boasting a population of over 76,000. Wikipedia
