Dillingen an der Donau Castle, the former residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg, towers over the town on a high terrace. Its history dates back to the 10th century, but it particularly developed from the 13th century onwards into an impressive castle complex with a distinctive northwest tower. Over the centuries, it was transformed from a medieval fortified castle into a Gothic and later Baroque palace. Today, it houses the tax office, but also serves as an event venue and offers insights into its turbulent past, for example in the small Knights' Hall. The castle is surrounded by a courtyard garden and the historic Brucktörle.
