Vizconde Melville Sound is a roughly 500 km long strait located in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and part of the Northwest Passage. It separates the islands of Reina Isabel to the north from Prince of Wales Island and other islands to the south. First explored in 1819 by William Edward Parry in his search for the Northwest Passage, the channel was named in honor of Robert Dundas, 2nd Viscount of Melville. In addition to its historical significance, it is a place of great natural beauty and was the site of the abandonment of the HMS Resolute in 1853. Wikipedia
