Ukrainian Free University in Munich is the oldest private higher education institution of the Ukrainian diaspora, founded in 1921. Unique in the world, it is the only university outside of Ukraine where instruction is conducted in the Ukrainian language. Throughout its rich history, which includes periods in Vienna, Prague, and Munich, UFU has become an important center of Ukrainian science and culture, educated a constellation of prominent figures, and maintains connections with Ukrainian and European universities.
