The Herrschaft Hummel was a historical region in the Glatzer Land, centered around Hummelschloss, which served as an important border post and to secure the "Polenweg" (Poland Trail). Over the centuries, the Herrschaft changed hands many times, from Bohemian princes to Hussites and Saxon nobles, and finally to the Wittelsbachs. Around 1550, the area was divided into a "German Side" and a "Bohemian Side," encouraging German settlement. After the dissolution of the Herrschaft at the end of the 16th century, parts went to Bohemia, others to Prussia (from 1763), where the area became known as the "Humblischer District" and later as the "Böhmischer Winkel."
